Build a freelance portfolio site in a weekend (that converts)

Page structure, the five sections clients read, and the technical setup for speed, SEO and contact forms.

Table of contents

A portfolio site is a sales page with case studies attached. Two days is enough if you resist designing a brand system first.

Hour 1–2: write the copy before choosing a template

Five blocks: who you help, what you deliver, proof, process, how to start. If the words are weak, no template saves the page.

Hour 3–6: the homepage structure

  1. Hero: who you help and the result, one call to action.
  2. Proof strip: logos, numbers or a short testimonial.
  3. Services: two or three packages with a starting price range.
  4. Case studies: three, each with a measurable result.
  5. About and contact: real photo, time zone, form.

Hour 7–10: case studies that do the selling

Same five headings every time: context, problem, what I did, result, client quote. Six hundred words is plenty.

Hour 11–14: the technical setup

  • Fast host plus a CDN.
  • Images compressed, served as WebP, with explicit dimensions.
  • One font family, two weights.
  • Contact form with spam protection and auto-reply.
  • Analytics and Search Console verified.

Hour 15–16: details that build trust

Show availability, response time, currencies accepted and a simple privacy page.

After launch

Add one case study a month and link the site in every proposal and invoice footer.
