Rewriting your Upwork profile so clients stop scrolling past it

The four sections that decide whether you get invited — and the exact wording changes that lift reply rates.

Table of contents

Clients read four things before deciding to invite you: your title, your first two lines, your portfolio thumbnails and your reviews. Everything else is decoration.

The title is a search result, not a job description

“Experienced Virtual Assistant” competes with 90,000 people. “Shopify Store Manager — Product Uploads, Order Ops, 48h Turnaround” competes with a handful.

The first two lines are the whole pitch

Only the first ~200 characters show before “more”. Lead with the outcome and the proof.

I build fast, conversion-focused Shopify pages. Last 12 stores averaged +18% mobile conversion within 60 days.

Portfolio: three strong pieces beat nine average ones

Each item needs a result in the title, a thumbnail readable at small size, and a 120-word case study.

Publish a self-directed project with real data and measurable improvement.

Proposals: mirror the job, then add one idea

Reference the specific requirement first, attach the most relevant sample, and offer one concrete suggestion they did not ask for.

Rates and response time

Keep your rate consistent with your pitch, and reply within a few hours during your stated working window.
