Applying to 200 remote roles through aggregators is a full-time job with a 1% response rate. A focused list of 20 companies, researched properly, routinely beats it.
Build a target list, not an application count
Pick companies that already hire in your time zone, shipped something in the last quarter you can talk about, and employ at least three people doing your job.
Rewrite your CV around outcomes
Replace “Responsible for social media” with “Grew organic LinkedIn reach 3× in 6 months, 12 posts/month, 2-person team”. Numbers, timeframe, team size.
The remote-specific signals
- State time-zone overlap in hours, not city names.
- Mention written artefacts you own — docs, changelogs, handbooks.
- Name the async tools you use daily.
Send a short application that answers one question
Every hiring manager silently asks: can this person do this job without supervision? Answer it in four sentences.
Prepare for the async interview
Practise a 90-second recorded introduction, a one-page written proposal, and a live portfolio walkthrough.
Negotiate the whole package
Ask about the pay band geography policy, equipment budget, paid time off and contract type before discussing numbers.
